Services for Educators

Register Now for our Next IAPC-Affiliated Dialogue Facilitation Course! Online every Sunday in January and February from noon-2:00 PM Eastern

Dialogue is increasingly recognized as a crucial component of education. Bringing dialogue into the classroom is easier said than done, however. In the course of 8 highly interactive and participatory sessions, you and your small cohort (capped at 10 people) will learn the Community of Philosophical Inquiry (CPI) approach to dialogue facilitation through role-playing, facilitation exercises, and one-on-one feedback. Participants will gain competence and confidence in creating inclusive learning environments that foster critical, creative, caring, and concentrated thinking.

This course is presented in collaboration with the Institute for the Advancement of Philosophy for Children (IAPC), and its structure, philosophical foundations, and content are inspired by the IAPC’s renowned residential summer seminar in Mendham, NJ. A Professional Development certificate of completion is available for educators (check with your local district for information about PD requirements).

Fees:

  • Individual Rate: $800 (class capped at 10)*

  • Group Rate: $6,000 (for up to 10 people)

*Every time you successfully refer a participant for the course, you will receive a $100 discount from your fee. Depending on enrollment, we may offer a small number of need-based partial scholarships for P4C practitioners operating in conflict zones around the world.

8-Week, IAPC-Affiliated Dialogue Facilitation Course

What people are saying:

Aaron and Ariel’s approach in breaking down facilitation skills into an 8-week course is so helpful in developing my own skills and strategies as a P4C facilitator in the classroom! Their materials and preparation that goes into their course is very well organized, comprehensive and user-friendly. They offer pre-session reading material, interesting and interactive materials to engage with within the sessions, and then post-session readings and activity suggestions. I highly recommend their courses to anyone interested in strengthening their skills in engaging in philosophy with children!

Thank you again for this workshop and sharing so many valuable resources with us. It was a pleasure getting to work with you, Aaron, and the other participants. This was a very energizing and encouraging experience for me as up until now my experience doing P4C has been a good bit of trial and error with minimal support or guidance. Getting better acquainted with the pioneering work done on P4C and getting to learn from experienced practitioners (and in community with others!) is really how I learn best and the opportunity means a lot. I look forward to participating in future workshops and hopefully working with you again in the future.

I had such a wonderful and meaningful experience engaging in an online P4C workshop series through Plato Institute. Ariel and Aaron were very knowledgeable and experienced in P4C practices. The schedule was organized well and had very interesting topics. I especially liked the thought experiments, inquiries, facilitation tips, variety of stimuli, and expert panel. The schedule was very clear and appropriately timed, the google drive was very well organized and all material was very accessible.

Workshops, Guest Lectures, and Consulting

What people are saying:

We learned techniques for encouraging productive student engagement around controversial issues, as well as ideas for how to create a dialogical space that is calm and respectful of all perspectives. Their knowledge of philosophy and group facilitation created an atmosphere where we felt comfortable learning new ideas and exploring ways to incorporate the concepts of intellectual vices and virtues in group discussion.

So much of the role of a captain/leader of an athletic team comes down to communication. The CPI intentionally took students out of their comfort zone and provided student athletes with the opportunity to have deep and thoughtful conversations. This not only provided student athletes with an opportunity to improve their ability to communicate but also for athletes of various teams to connect with other teams throughout the school and build a sense of community across sports.
